Open Science and Citizen Science. From Principles to Practices
As part of the Aurora 2030 Work Package 10 “Open Science and Citizen Science”, Task Team 10.2 announces a cycle of workshops, training events, and open seminars designed to foster awareness, skills, and discussion on the practical implementation of Open Science and Citizen Science across Aurora universities.
Running from November 2025 to May 2026, the series blends structured learning, hands-on training, and thematic debates. It is conceived as a coherent path to empower doctoral and master students, early-career researchers, and academic staff with the knowledge, competencies, and ethical awareness needed to integrate Open and Citizen Science practices in research and teaching.

Managing and Sharing Research Data in Open and Citizen Science
⏰ Date: 18 December 2025 (10:00–12:00 CET)
👥 Mode: Online
Short Description
This training session focuses on one of the core pillars of Open Science: the responsible management, sharing, and reuse of research data. Participants will explore how to design effective data management strategies, how to assess the FAIRness of datasets, and how to address the ethical and legal challenges that emerge when data are produced or shared within Citizen Science initiatives. The event combines theoretical framing with practical exercises and aims to provide doctoral candidates with concrete tools to integrate FAIR and open data practices into their research workflows.
Speakers:
- Mareike Buss (CBS), Managing and Sharing Research Data in Open and Citizen Science
- Antonio Paolo Russo (URV), Dos and Don’ts from Participatory-Based Data Management: Insights from the H2020 SMARTDEST Project
Chair: Alessandro Manni (UNINA)
