Cycle of Workshops, Training Events, and Open Seminars (November 2025 – May 2026)
As part of the Aurora 2030 Work Package 10 “Open Science and Citizen Science,” Task Team 10.2 announces a cycle of workshops, training events, and open seminars designed to foster awareness, skills, and discussion on the practical implementation of Open Science and Citizen Science across Aurora universities.
Running from November 2025 to May 2026, the series blends structured learning, hands-on training, and thematic debates. It is conceived as a coherent path to empower doctoral and master’s students, early-career researchers, and academic staff with the knowledge, competencies, and ethical awareness needed to integrate Open and Citizen Science practices in research and teaching.
🔹 Workshop – Best Practices in Open Science and Citizen Science: from Principles to Practice
Date: 4 November 2025 (09:00–11:00 CET) | Mode: Hybrid
A comprehensive overview of best practices in Open and Citizen Science, highlighting exemplary projects, innovative community engagement strategies, and the interplay between Open Science, AI, and research innovation.

🔹 Training Events (Dec 2025 – Mar 2026)
Three hands-on sessions on operational and methodological aspects:
- Training 1 (18th December 2025, online): Managing and Sharing Research Data; FAIRness; ethics in Citizen Science.
Chair: Alessandro Manni (UNINA). Speakers: Mareike Buss (CBS); Antonio Russo (URV). - Training 2 (23rd January 2026, online): Open-Source Software and workflows; open licensing; tools for collaborative Citizen Science; open peer review simulation; OA platforms; integrating CS in academic publications.
Chair: Maria Luisa Chiusano (UNINA). Speakers: Thomas Haselwanter (UIBK, title tbc); Sander Bosch (VU, case study). - Training 3 (27th March 2026, hybrid): Open Access publishing; Open Peer Review; Citizen Science communication and public engagement.
Chair: Helena Cruz de Carvalho. Speakers: Audrey Bourdeix (UPEC, title tbc); Florian Westreicher (UIBK, Butterfly Project, title tbc).
🔹 Open Seminars (Feb – May 2026)
Discussion-based events on broader cultural, ethical, and institutional dimensions:
- Seminar 1 (20th February 2026, hybrid): Open Data and Open Access in teaching; Citizen Science in higher education.
Chair: Donato Sitaro. Speakers (tbc): Thomas Kaarsted (SDU); Chrisa Tsinaraki (TUC); Radomir Sztwiertnia (Olomouc). - Seminar 2 (16th April 2026, online): Legal and ethical challenges; data protection; open licensing for community-driven research.
Chair: Alessandro Manni (UNINA). Speakers: Augusto Romano (UNINA, AI & Law, tbc); Jitka Stilund Hansen (DTU, tbc). - Seminar 3 (18th-21st May 2026, in person at UDE): The role of Open and Citizen Science in AI and innovation; practical examples of AI in CS projects.
